How do you contribute?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Maybe job description A-317 says you\u2019re a Data Analyst II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And according to the org chart, you\u2019re part of the Analytics Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">But \u2013 your \ud835\ude33\ud835\ude26\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude31\ud835\ude30\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude23\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude2d\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude35\ud835\ude3a is to monitor and report on the status of the new IT Implementation Project. Your \ud835\ude33\ud835\ude26\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude31\ud835\ude30\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude23\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude2d\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude35\ud835\ude3a is to touch base with each section lead, every day. And update the tracking software. Your \ud835\ude33\ud835\ude26\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude31\ud835\ude30\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude23\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude2d\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude35\ud835\ude3a is to post updated project reports on the team intranet every Monday by 9am. Your \ud835\ude33\ud835\ude26\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude31\ud835\ude30\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude23\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude2d\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude35\ud835\ude3a is to see how one section\u2019s work may impact the other sections. And your \ud835\ude33\ud835\ude26\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude31\ud835\ude30\ud835\ude2f\ud835\ude34\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude23\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude2d\ud835\ude2a\ud835\ude35y is to keep the Project Lead up to date with your insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">That\u2019s how you focus your efforts. That\u2019s how you contribute. And, make no mistake, your contributions are meaningful. They help keep a top-level strategic project on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">None of that is specifically in your job description. And there\u2019s not even a hint of it in the org chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Responsibilities are what matter. And here\u2019s how I define it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\ud835\ude3c \ud835\ude67\ud835\ude5a\ud835\ude68\ud835\ude65\ud835\ude64\ud835\ude63\ud835\ude68\ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude57\ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude61\ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude69\ud835\ude6e \ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude68 \ud835\ude56 \ud835\ude65\ud835\ude5a\ud835\ude67\ud835\ude68\ud835\ude64\ud835\ude63\u2019\ud835\ude68 \ud835\ude6c\ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude61\ud835\ude61\ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude63\ud835\ude5c \ud835\ude56\ud835\ude63\ud835\ude59 \ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude63\ud835\ude69\ud835\ude5a\ud835\ude63\ud835\ude69\ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude64\ud835\ude63\ud835\ude56\ud835\ude61 \ud835\ude64\ud835\ude6c\ud835\ude63\ud835\ude5a\ud835\ude67\ud835\ude68\ud835\ude5d\ud835\ude5e\ud835\ude65 \ud835\ude64\ud835\ude5b \ud835\ude56\ud835\ude63 \ud835\ude64\ud835\ude6a\ud835\ude69\ud835\ude58\ud835\ude64\ud835\ude62\ud835\ude5a \ud835\ude69\ud835\ude5d\ud835\ude56\ud835\ude69 \ud835\ude62\ud835\ude56\ud835\ude69\ud835\ude69\ud835\ude5a\ud835\ude67\ud835\ude68.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This is how you contribute. And how you should be evaluated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The broad importance of focusing on clear responsibilities can\u2019t be overstated. When people are clear about their responsibilities, it\u2019s often in spite of their job descriptions, not because of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And without this clarity, accountability is impossible. So, job descriptions and org charts? Not good enough. If each of your team members isn\u2019t clear about their responsibilities &#8211; start there.
