They produce output that\u2019s deeply valued in their domain. It\u2019s not just volume for volume\u2019s sake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This shows up in two ways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>They co-design their role <\/strong>by <em>negotiating <\/em>their responsibilities to take advantage of their special experience, knowledge, and skills. When they cooperatively design their responsibilities to emphasize what they do best, they are stacking the odds in their favor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>They prioritize ruthlessly <\/strong>to protect their high-value work. When in doubt, they unpack competing priorities to assure that a low-value responsibility isn\u2019t crowding out a high-value responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Most people inherit their responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Star performers design them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Design your role.
